Plovdiv is one of the oldest permanently inhabited towns in Europe and the world. Its rich historical past, combining different epochs, ethnicities and cultures, is closely linked to the history of the ancient Thracian tribe of the Odrysians and one of its first rulers - Odrys, who established his residences in the cities of Odrysa (today's Plovdiv) and Uskudama (today's Edirne, Turkey). Thanks to their high degree of development, the Odrysians were the first among the Thracian tribes who established their durable state - the Odrysian kingdom, founded in the 5th century BC.

The convenient location and the increased expansion of the Odrysian rulers led to the flourishing of their kingdom, which extended over the territory of present-day Bulgaria, Northern Turkey and Northern Greece.

The Odrysian kingdom existed as an independent state until 46 AD, when it was annexed to the Roman Empire and the Roman province of Thrace was formed.

Today Plovdiv is an important cultural centre, hosting festivals, concerts, opera festivals and many other cultural events. It is a city with its own spirit and traditions, with a memorable image and a specific atmosphere.

We wish you a pleasant stay here and we look forward to welcoming you back!
